How to Make Organic Baby Food: The Ultimate Guide
Making your own baby food can be quite a hassle, especially if you aren’t too sure about how to make it. There are many kinds of blenders that you can use, and some people even use a regular coffee grinder to grind up their fruits and vegetables. I personally don’t have a baby food maker, and I always buy mine pre-made, but sometimes you just want to know how to make organic baby food and have it come out right.
In this guide, I will be showing you how to make organic baby food using only items that you probably already have in your kitchen. Unless you are exceptionally wealthy, or have a very large family, there is no reason that you shouldn’t be able to make all the foods shown in this guide. Don’t be afraid to explore and create your own blends!
What is Organic Baby Food?
Organic baby food is simply regular food that you would eat, only made more healthy. There are many websites out there that will show you how to make organic Sriracha, as well as other kinds of organic sauces and dips. These websites all contain good information, but sometimes the instructions can be a little complicated, and it is easier just to buy the pre-made stuff instead of trying to make it yourself. Pre-made isn’t always bad, especially when you are starting out with your parenting journey.
The benefits of making your own organic baby food include saving money, having complete control over what goes into your kid’s diet, and being able to easily change up the meals because they are made with real foods! Many stores bought foods aren’t completely realistic in terms of nutrition and storing leftovers from one meal for the next can be difficult. If you keep everything in plastic bags or containers, then those problems go away… Or at least most of them do. Making your own plastic bags is much easier than making your own paper bags!
How to Make Organic Baby Food
Blending is the most important part about making any kind of baby food. If you just gave the kid a spoon and said “eat”, then you should give them a smoothie or some other kind of blended fruit mix rather than trying to force-feed them puréed foods. Here are a few tips for getting good blending results when you are making your own baby food:
Use Small Spoons: When you are giving small kids spoons, they often don’t like being filled up too much at once, so using smaller spoons will allow them to take more on each feeding. Depending on what kind of blender you have, some ingredients might not get fully blended due to settling or clumping happening on top of the blender lid. This isn’t too big of an issue when it comes down to actually eating the food off of glass plates anyway, since they should be cleaned after each use anyway.
Don’t Over blend: Sometimes when we over blend our foods, we end up with things like poured milk and smashed fruits and vegetables. It isn’t either often that we go through these phases when we are making baby food (unless we are trying out new recipes), but they do happen sometimes. Usually sticking with default settings will give decent results without having to worry about overdoing it.
Add Some Fat: Adding some fat (coconut oil) can help ease the pain for babies that haven’t started eating solids yet, as well as give certain kinds of fruits and vegetables better texture. Without adding any fat at all, things can end up being quite rubbery looking! Even though it doesn’t look like it should fit there (yet), adding coconut oil will help prepare the body for digestion of solid foods later on down the line.
Store Bought vs Home Made
When it comes down to buying vs making everything yourself, there are many advantages and disadvantages to both options. On one hand, commercially made products contain fewer additives and preservatives than homemade products do, but on the other hand, homemade products are completely customizable and allow you to control every aspect of the recipe yourself. Whether this matters depend on what kind of person you are catering to in terms of giving their child a healthy start in life, so experimentation is definitely required if you want to find out which method works best for your family!
As was mentioned before though, commercially made products usually lead off with safer ingredients than homemade products do. Because of this fact alone, there are many safe commercially available options for preparing infant formulas that really couldn’t matter less if it came down to safety issues!
As long as everything else falls into place properly, then there shouldn’t be any reason why you shouldn’t be able to give your child perfectly fine organically prepared infant formula!
