5 Reasons to Buy Organic Food
Organic food is better for you and your family, that’s what most people believe. After all, who doesn’t want the best for their family? Going to the grocery store and buying organic foods is one of the ways that you can make your family happy. Even if you don’t have kids, you still want them to be happy, right? So here are five reasons why you should buy organic food for your family.
Diet
Organic food is usually higher in nutrients than conventionally grown foods. Because of this, many people believe that an organic diet is a healthier diet and will keep them leaner. However, a healthy balanced diet without processed foods is what you should be going for instead of focusing on only one kind of food.
Environment
The environment is getting pretty big these days, and it isn’t going to get any smaller anytime soon. Using up all of our resources and creating more waste isn’t something that we do every day, but it is something that we have to do at some point in time. When you buy organic foods, you are contributing to the preservation of the environment and making the world a better place.
Healthier
Organic fruits and vegetables tend to be more nutrient dense than their non-organic counterparts. Healthier eating habits lead to a healthier body, so going with an organic diet can be seen as a way of healthy eating. There are plenty of unhealthy things that happen in nature, such as pesticides getting into your food, so focusing on only consuming organically grown foods can be seen as a way of limiting your exposure to these toxins and becoming healthier in the long run.
Less Exposure To Pesticides
Pesticides are very common in conventional farming methods. These pesticides can be dangerous to your health if you are exposed to them for an extended period of time, especially if you are pregnant or young enough to be developing glands throughout your life. Buying organic foods reduces your exposure to these chemicals and makes sense from a health perspective if you want to avoid getting sick from these chemicals.
Lasts Longer
If we have learned anything about cooking techniques over the past couple of years, it is that buying in bulk can save you money in the long run. Because organics require less processing than regular foods do, they last longer and when you buy in bulk, you can save on storage costs later on down the line. Some stores even give you discounts on storage for a limited amount of time, so storing away from home isn’t too expensive compared to other things that you might do with your groceries.
Less Travel Time
Travel time is something that should be considered when thinking about how we plan out our day. The further away we travel from home, the more gas we seem to use up (although modern gasoline engines are pretty efficient). With less travel time required when buying organics than when buying regular foods, there will be less fuel used up by our cars during our travels. Not only that, but since organics aren’t as heavy as regular foods are (usually), our cars will go farther before needing to visit the gas station again. Not only will this increase the amount of time that we have while we are shopping for groceries, but we will also save money while we are waiting for our next trip!
What Can You Buy Organic?
There are quite a few things that you can buy organic if you wanted to try hard enough: produce (berries, grapes), dairy (cheese curd), meats (lamb chops), oils (canola oil), processed foods (cookies), grains (wheat berries) and sweeteners (brown sugar). There are many other items that you can buy organic besides these listed above, so don’t worry if there is something else that you think should be on this list! There are many produce options that you have when going with an organic diet, such as kiwis and quinoa rather than potatoes or carrots.
Which Brand Should You Buy?
When choosing which brand of organic food products to purchase, it is important to note that not all brands follow the guidelines set out by Organic Australia Ltd., the company who owns Orange™ certification. Just because one product doesn’t specify where it was produced doesn’t mean that they aren’t following guidelines set out by Organic Australia Ltd. It is best when buying organic products to choose whichever company has the best reputation within your community; after all, they were voted “best brand” by their customers! Here are some other resources for finding out which brands follow guidelines: customer service pages for each company [1], checking online reviews [2], searching “which brand does X follow?” on Google [3] and checking packaging [4].
As far as price goes: prices vary depending on location and seasonally change due to harvest times changing etc., however generally speaking regular grocery store prices stay relatively consistent across countries whereas organics tend to fluctuate more depending on location [5]. On top of this being significantly cheaper than purchasing non-organic items, [6] there is also a carbon footprint factor involved with purchasing organics over non-organic items[7].
Whether buying organic food makes financial sense varies person-to-person; however, based on this year alone (~2 years now I think?), I could easily eat up my whole savings cycle just through buying organic foods!
Notes:
What are 4 pros for buying organic foods?
1. Organic foods are healthier for you.
2. Organic foods taste better.
3. Organic foods are better for the environment.
4. Organic foods are more humane.
Is organic food really safer?
The safety of organic food is a topic of debate. Some people believe that organic food is safer because it is not treated with pesticides or other chemicals. Others believe that organic food is not necessarily safer and that the benefits of eating organic food are mostly cosmetic. There is no scientific evidence that organic food is safer than conventional food.
Why you shouldn’t buy organic foods?
There are a few reasons why you might not want to buy organic foods. First, they can be more expensive than conventionally grown foods. Second, organic farming practices may not be as sustainable as claimed. And finally, there is no evidence that organic foods are healthier than conventionally grown foods.
Is Buying organic a gimmick?
There is no clear answer to this question as opinions vary on the matter. Some people believe that buying organic is a gimmick, while others feel that it is the healthier option. There are pros and cons to both buying organic and buying conventional produce, so it is up to the individual to decide which is best for them.
What are the 3 disadvantages of organic food?
1. Organic food is more expensive than conventionally grown food.
2. Organic food is not always available.
3. There is no scientific evidence that organic food is healthier than conventionally grown food.
Is organic food really better for you?
There is a lot of debate surrounding the benefits of organic food. Some people argue that organic food is healthier because it is grown without the use of pesticides and other chemicals. Others argue that the nutritional content of organic and conventional food is the same.
There is some evidence that organic food is healthier than conventional food. A study published in the British Journal of Nutrition found that organic vegetables had higher levels of antioxidants than conventionally grown vegetables. Antioxidants are important for health because they help protect the body from damage caused by free radicals.
However, there is also evidence that the nutritional content of organic and conventional food is the same. A study published in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association found that there was no difference in the nutritional content of organic and conventional milk, eggs, and produce.
Overall, there is inconclusive evidence about the health benefits of organic food. More research is needed to determine whether organic food is really healthier than conventional food.
