10 Reasons Why Organic Food is Better for the Environment
Organic food is better for the environment than regular food, and there are many reasons why this is the case. Eating organic isn’t something that you think about every day, but it does make sense for the planet and the species that we have on Earth.
1. It is grown using fewer pesticides
Food is grown using pesticides from time to time, whether it is sprayable or not. However, sprayable pesticides tend to be quite expensive and can also have other consequences on the environment. For example, poisoned bugs or an infestation of bugs will require spraying more chemicals. An organically grown plant will not contain any traces of pesticides, and will only be contaminated if they were to spray a non–organic product on their plants.
2. It reduces the use of artificial fertilizers
Artificial fertilizers are made up of many kinds of chemicals that can be potentially dangerous to humans if spilled or used incorrectly. While some types of artificial fertilizers are made up of entirely safe materials, others can be quite damaging to the environment and create a lot of waste throughout its production process. An organically grown plant will grow stronger and healthier due to natural soil amendments, and won’t need any artificial fertilizers to survive.

But because most processed foods don’t contain ingredients that come from nature, they need to use artificial colors in order to appear normal after processing. When you buy conventionally grown fruits and vegetables, they are likely mixed together in some sort of bag or container due to being transported from far away locations. Because of this, most fruits and vegetables aren’t in their most optimal state when they reach you; some may be rotten or have gone bad after transportation while others might not be at their peak flavor because they weren’t allowed enough time to ripen on the journey here. With organic farming, you are growing things right next to each other instead of having to transport everything else here, so you get more out of your space and your resources don’t get wasted as quickly.
6. It reduces food-related illnesses
We all know about food poisoning happening when you eat foods that aren’t properly stored or handled but did you know that sometimes buying fresh fruits and vegetables can actually cause food illnesses? When you cook with fresh vegetables and fruits, those items go through some kind of preparation process where they cut up vegetables or chop up fruits into small pieces so that they can cook them evenly (usually using heat) across all parts of the dish. However, not all produce goes through this process naturally and has to be pre-treated with chemicals before going into storage or shipping purposes. An organically grown product won’t have any synthetic hormones or added treatments, so you get more out of your money when it comes time to buy new produce!
7. It is better for your health locally sourced
When you purchase from a grocery store or buy processed foods from a box rather than making things yourself, then you aren’t getting as much control over what goes into your body as you would if you made everything from scratch at home! There are many people out there (including professionals) that thrive off of eating fresh fruits and vegetables every single day but doing it themselves allows them to have complete control over what goes into their bodies versus letting someone else decide what goes into their body 😉 An organically grown product comes from nearby sources vs coming from far away like when buying from a grocery store vs making your own product does!
8. You save money every single month
The amount that you save by not having to go grocery shopping every week/month/season etc. is incredible! Even if just buying fewer items off the shelf saves you money each month then over time this can add up to quite a bit of savings especially since grocery prices keep rising :(An organically raised animal will give you more meat per dollar than an industrially raised animal since industrial meats cost more than natural meats per calorie ingested.).
9. You spend less time in line at the grocery store/delivery person arrival times/food preparation times etc
An organically produced meal usually takes longer than an industrially produced meal but has greater benefits since it comes from healthy ingredients versus processed ingredients found in restaurants etc. That being said, sometimes making your own meals can take ages especially if you don’t have much experience cooking over high heat settings!
